Florida!!!

I'm off to Florida today!!! Yay! My aunt has a condo in Fort Myers, so my sister and I are spending a week there. This is the slowest time of the year for me, so I'm going to take advantage of it! Any orders will be worked on/mailed out on February 5th. I'll be sure to post some photos when I get back!!

Wearable Abstract Art...

I've finally added brooches to my eco-jewelry line! These brooches are made from pieces of recycled plastic. I really enjoy making them. I don't think about anything except color and feeling. I want each brooch to have it's own little personality. Making these is a great exercise for my painting. I tend to worry and think too much, I want to paint the same way I make these brooches.

Re Dos...

Natural lighting is great, but when you shoot by a window you may have a dark side. I was struggling with this until someone suggested I use a mirror for the other side. The reflection acts as a light source. This tip really helped me out! Now I always use a mirror when photographing my work.

Re Dos

This photo (the smaller, darker one) really lacked the bright rich color these earrings have in real life. I decided to use a simple white back drop so the colors would pop. This improved picture was picked for a treasury which happened to make it to the front page!

Picture RE DO S

This winter I promised myself I would improve my etsy store by taking better pictures and by re doing ones that needed work. Every week I re do at least one listing that needs some love in addition to adding new items with the same intentions. Pictures are so so important on etsy!! The better your pictures the better chance it will be clicked on, and the better chance it will be picked for a treasury and possibly make it to the front page. Front page is huge because people from all over the world see that first when they visit etsy's site. That's how you get a following on etsy. So for the rest of this week I'm going to post 'before' and 'after' photos of some listings I re did...kind of like makeovers! It's amazing what a few minor details will do for your photos. A good quality camera is a must too!!

New Spring Design...

Here's a new design of mine that incorporates recycled aluminum and plastic. The small silver circle is aluminum and the 2 bigger circles are plastic, all hand cut from recycled bottles and cans. They are a great way to add a punch of color. More colors to come!

So I'm 25 today....

Wow! I can't believe I'm the big 25 today... It's kind of weird because I always think of myself as being in my early 20's...now I'm in my mid 20's. Oh well! I guess I've accomplished a lot so far. Now I just need to make my business grow...

My mom told me that the day I was born was the coldest day of the year, much like today. It's always interesting to think about the day that you entered into this world. Can't wait to have cake later!

These guys were cut from coke cans. I bend the top circle for added texture. They are super light-weight and fun!

Detergent Bottle Earrings...

I love using contrasting colors in my work. The yellow and blue combo is one of my favorites. I cut these shapes from clothes detergent bottles. They're simple, yet super funky.

I Heart U!

These heart earrings were hand made from recycled plastic bottles! The textured plastic catches the light really beautifully. Both layers were cut out by hand with scissors. Why do I always mention the scissors? Because I take pride in cutting my designs by hand. There are hole punches available where you can simply cut the heart (or other shapes) out in one punch. I think that takes the art and design away. Everything would look the same. What fun is that? Maybe I am nuts for doing it by hand, but I think that the hard road is the better one.

I'll be playing at Elk Mtn. tomorrow (1-3-09) from 2pm-6pm!
