Celebrating 2 years on etsy!!

Today is my 2 year anniversary on etsy!! I can't get over how fast time goes by! Etsy has been wonderful for my business, I owe a lot of great things to my etsy shop. I'll never forget how I heard of it...I was getting my teeth cleaned and I mentioned to the hygienist that I was starting my own art business. She asked if I ever heard of etsy, and I said no. I checked it out and immediately signed up. My pictures were horrible!! I'll never forget my first sale either (1 month after opening). I was so excited when I saw it! I've come a long way in these past 2 years, and I've been working extremely hard. My hard work is starting to pay off though. In my mind there is no such thing as luck, it's all about hard work and passion...

Eco Coffee Mug Earrings!

I recently came up with this new design! They are little coffee mugs (or tea cups). I wanted a simple but fun design for such a popular drink. The idea actually came to me when I was brainstorming a request from L'aveggio Roasteria. L'aveggio wants me to make some eco-friendly Christmas ornaments for their tree in the coffee shop and for a tree that will be auctioned off by Coughlin and Gerhart. So obviously the ornaments needed a coffee theme. I thought a simple but cute design would come from soda cans. The ornaments will be bigger. I've also made plastic ones from coffee lids, etc. and they were really cute too!

To Do List...

This past weekend at Elk Mtn was great! I met so many great people, it was awesome. I have some new ideas up my sleeve (napkin rings!) and lots of items to make. I also got a second huge order from New Belgium Brewery! Lots to do!!

New Item!

Here is a new (old) design I'm working with. I'm sure you're familiar with it, a peace sign... I originally got a special request from Earth and Wears to make a pair of these. I was so happy with the end result that I decided to add it to my line. I'm anxious to see how people react to them this weekend. I used a diet pepsi can for this pair...

Here are some items I made from beer cans! A cute flower ring, and a pair of heart earrings. Can you guess what kind of cans they're made from????

New Design!

Here's a new design I just made yesterday! 4 layered discs hand cut from a plastic milk carton. I also added a tiny aqua circle at the top which was cut from a plastic bottle. I love the look of these earrings! They're super light weight and they will finish any summer look.

Plastic Bottle Earrings

These plastic bottle earrings are one of my favorite designs to make. Once I get started it's easy to make at least 10 pairs. I love seeing and creating different color combos!! I just grab a bunch of bottles and go to town. I especially love seeing them lined up next to each other when I'm finished. Aaa...my color fix for the day!

Last Show of 2008...

This Sunday December 7th is my last show of 2008. It's at Vestal High School in Vestal, NY from 10am until 4pm. This season really flew by! Shows start up again in April, however I hope to do public selling at least once a month January-March.

So stop by Vestal High School if you're in the area. It'll be a great place to get your Christmas shopping done!

Commission for a Dietitian...

I was recently asked to do a special order by a registered dietitian who does research at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. She wanted to give her study subjects a pair of fruit based earrings as a reminder of her (and the nutrition study) and also as a thank you. She wanted earrings based on their different personalities, so I was to come up with a variety. I decided on 2 kinds, one of them a little funky, and the other a little more simple. The simpler ones were my locket earrings made from recycled yogurt containers and recycled aluminum cans. The funkier ones were made from recycled plastic, recycled newspaper and tissue paper.

Girl Scouts!

On September 29th I had the pleasure of talking to a local girl scout group about my work and recycling. They were such a great group! They also asked a lot of really good questions, like "what's your favorite pair of earrings?", "how long does it take?", "what kind of tools do you use?", etc. I was stumped on the favorite earring question! I also taught them how to make little tote bags out of brown paper bags so they could really take the 'reuse' idea home. I wanted them to take part in the process of creating something out of something else. Show them that it's really easy to reuse what we have! We all had a ball!

These past couple weeks I've been pretty busy. Last week I worked on my first wholesale order! Yay! I made 17 pairs of earrings for the customer. I'm pretty excited about it. The week before that I made earrings for a bridal party! I'm very excited about that, just to be part of such a special day is so wonderful! Here are some new pieces...

Eco Ovals

These funky earrings are eco-friendly because they are made with recycled plastic! This plastic is from an iced-tea jug and this type of plastic is not recyclable in my neighborhood, so it makes me really happy to be able to reuse it.
